Lady Eagle Basketball Concludes Texas Swing at North Texas

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team wraps up the road portion of their schedule when the Lady Eagles travels to North Texas on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.
Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (14-12, 7-8) are coming off a 59-49 win at Rice on Thursday. Shayla Wilson came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points while Lashyra Cotton and Keri Jewett-Giles added 12 points each. Brittanny Dinkins dished out five assists and Jayla King pocketed four steals.
Caitlin Jenkins leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 12.0 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Dinkins is next as she adds 10.8 points. King adds 7.6 points and 5.1 rebounds. Dinkins and Jewett-Giles are handing out 3.6 and 3.3 assists per game, respectively.
Southern Miss is averaging 60.1 points and 37.2 rebounds per game while shooting 39.8 percent from the field and 65.5 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles are giving up 58.8 points on 39.0 percent shooting.
A Look at North Texas
North Texas (9-16, 4-11) is coming off a 78-67 loss against Louisiana Tech. Four Mean Green players scored in double figures led by Kelsey Criner with 18, Acheil Tac, Candice Adams and Terra Ellison had 13 points each. Criner and Ellison had a team-best six rebounds apiece.
Head Coach Jalie Mitchell is in her first season at North Texas after spending the last three seasons at Texas.
North Texas uses a balanced scoring attack, led by Criner with 12.8 points per game followed closely by Adams with 11.4, Tac is next at 10.8 and Ellison at 10.0 points. Tac is the team's top rebounder at 8.6 rebounds per game.
The Mean Green is averaging 60.9 points and 36.4 rebounds per game while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 67.8 percent from the line.
Series Record
This is the fourth meeting between the two teams. The two teams played for the first time Mar. 5, 2014 in Denton with Southern Miss winning that matchup.

Following the North Texas game, the Lady Eagles will close out the regular season at home when Southern Miss hosts WKU on Thursday, Mar. 3 and conclude with Marshall on Mar. 5.
