Lady Eagle Basketball Set to Host UTSA

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team wraps up a two-game home stand on Saturday when the Lady Eagles host UTSA at 5 p.m. in Reed Green Coliseum.
Fans may redeem their Saturday Baseball Ticket Stub at the Reed Green Box Office for a Complimentary Ticket to the Women's Basketball game as part of a ticket bounce-back.
This game will serve as our annual game to recognize and honor members of the Children's Center from here on campus. And the first 100 fans in attendance will receive Southern Miss Sunglasses at the North Entrance of the Coliseum as they enter.
Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (12-12, 5-8) are coming off a 57-54 loss to UTEP on Thursday night. Brittanny Dinkins paced the Lady Eagles with 17 points while Brittny Norris had 14 and Tajanay Veiga added 13 points. Jayla King pulled down eight rebounds. Dinkins also dished out five assists.
Caitlin Jenkins leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 12.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Dinkins is next as she adds 10.6 points. King adds 7.8 points and 5.2 rebounds. Dinkins and Keri Jewett-Giles are handing out 3.5 each assists per game.
Southern Miss is averaging 60.0 points and 37.2 rebounds per game while shooting 39.8 percent from the field and 64.8 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles are giving up 59.4 points on 39.5 percent shooting.
A Look at UTSA
UTSA (8-16, 4-10) is coming off a 75-66 loss at Louisiana Tech. Akunna Elonu led the Roadrunners with 18 points while Crystal Chidomere had 16 and Alana Heard chipped in 12. Elonu also had a team-best seven rebounds. UTSA went 0-9 from behind the arc.
Head Coach Lubomyr Lichonczak is in his third season at UTSA and own a record of 38-48 with the Roadrunners.
Tesha Smith leads the Roadrunners in scoring and rebounding with averages of 10.0 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Elonu is next at 9.3 points.
The Roadrunner are averaging 62.0 points and 40.0 rebounds per game while shooting 38.7 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from the line.
Series Record
This is the fifth meeting between the two teams ... Southern Miss leads the overall series 3-1 ... The Lady Eagles won the initial meeting between the teams in 2013-14 ... UTSA took the win in the previous meeting this season.

Following the UTSA game, the Lady Eagles will close out the road schedule, traveling to Rice on Thursday, Feb. 25 and conclude at North Texas on Saturday, Feb. 27.
