Lady Eagles Hit the Road to Face UAB

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team hits the road to face UAB on Thursday in a 7 p.m. tip.
Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (12-9, 5-5) are coming off a 68-62 win over Rice. A quartet of Lady Eagles scored in double figures with Caitlin Jenkins leading the way with 16 points while Jayla King had 15, Brittny Norris and Keri Jewett-Giles added 13 and 11 points, respectively. Jenkins also had a team-best nine rebounds and King added eight. Brittanny Dinkins dished out nine assists. Southern Miss finished the game shooting 50 percent from the field.
Jenkins continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding with 12.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Dinkins is next as she adds 10.2 points. Jayla King adds 8.5 points and 5.1 rebounds. Dinkins and Jewett-Giles are handing out 3.7 and 3.6 assists per game.
Southern Miss is averaging 61.5 points and 38.0 rebounds per game while shooting 40.5 percent from the field and 63.8 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles are giving up 59.1 points on 39.4 percent shooting.
A Look at UAB
UAB (11-11, 4-7) is coming off a 67-62 win at FIU on Feb. 6. Deanna Kuzmanic paced a trio of Blazers in scoring with 15 points followed by Chelsee Black with 14 and Brittany Winborne with a double-double 13 points and 10 rebounds.
In his third season at UAB, Head Coach Randy Norton returns 10 letterwinners from last season's squad and welcomes four newcomers.
Kuzmanic leads the team in scoring with 13.4 points per game while two other players are averaging double figure points. Black is next at 12.6 followed by Winborne at 10.6. Winborne also leads the team with 10.2 rebounds per game.
The Blazers are averaging 61.7 points and 38.7 rebounds per game while shooting 41.7 percent from the field and 62.7 percent from the line.
Series Record
This is the 59th meeting between the two teams in a series that began in 1979 with UAB winning that matchup in Birmingham. Southern Miss leads the overall series 38-20. The teams played three time last season with Southern Miss taking two of the three.

Following the UAB game, the Lady Eagles will continue their road swing traveling to Middle Tennessee on Feb. 13 at 5 p.m.
