HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss women's basketball guard Brittanny Dinkins and football running back Ito Smith were each voted the university's SAAC Players of the Week (Nov. 14-20) by their peers.
After the game against Tulane, Dinkins has moved into eighth on Southern Miss' all-time career 3-pointer list. She only needs three more to pass Jamierra Faulker and be seventh all-time. She's averaging 4.3 steals a game and was key in the Lady Eagles setting a new record for forced turnovers in a game (The Lady Eagles forced 39 against William Carey). Dinkins poured in a season-high 22 points against Tulane and she swiped a career-high tying seven steals against Alabama State.
She averaged 17.7 points in each game, 4.3 steals, 3.3 rebounds and only 2 turnovers.
Smith recorded a 1-yard scoring run late in the first half to register his 16th-straight game with at least one touchdown. He finished the game with two rushing scores and now has 15 this season, moving into third by himself on the school's single-season charts and ahead Jalen Richard (2015), Damion Fletcher (2007) and Sam Dejarnette (1982), who each had 14 their respective seasons.
Smith also registered his sixth 100-yard rushing game of the season with 113 yards versus the Mean Green and the 14th of his career. He now has 1,194 yards for the season â€" which ties him with Derrick Nix (2002) for the sixth-most rushing yards at the school in a season. He also has accumulated 2,858 career rushing yards which is sixth-most all-time at Southern Miss. The junior running back also added 67 receiving yards for 180 all-purpose in the contest.
The Lady Eagles will host Mississippi Valley State at 6 p.m. on Thursday while the football team awaits word on its bowl destination.
