Venue: Joe P. Park Practice Facility
Format: Full Pads
Upcoming: Wednesday (3:10 p.m.)
Report: Southern Miss (4-2, 2-1 Conference USA) starts the second half of its regular season this weekend, and returned to practice Tuesday to prepare for its final non-conference game of the regular season at LSU. The Golden Eagles make their third ever trip to Tiger Stadium after defeating LSU their last time there, 20-18, in 1994. This will be the second-straight road affair this week for Southern Miss, who dropped its first league game at UTSA last weekend. Game time for Saturday's tilt begins at 6:30 p.m., and can be seen on the SEC Network as well as be heard on the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network.
Coach Jay Hopson
On today's practice…
"This is certainly a big challenge, they're a great football team so we know we have to have good practices. I thought we had a good day today."
On how important keeping high energy week to week…
"It's always important because you always want to have good practices. That's the reality of preparing for Saturday. You have to carry those practices onto the field on gameday. Now there are some weeks that practices are better than others, but we are just making sure we get consistent."
On LSU coming off a rest week…
"It's football. Everyone has an open date. I don't think there is any advantage or disadvantage, it's just football and we certainly have to be ready for Saturday because we know we have to play a football team that is two plays away from being 5-0."
On the LSU team's strengths…
"They have a lot of strengths. Their running back is a Heisman Trophy candidate, so that's obviously a strength. Defensive line wise they are very good. Linebackers really fly around. Defensive backs are fast and cover well. (They are a) very talented football team."
