Lady Eagles Set to Host FIU in Conference USA Action

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team will look to extend its home court win streak as they set to host FIU Saturday at Reed Green Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. CT.
The first 500 fans will receive a one-of-a-kind replica rally towel of the Reed Green Coliseum court. It will also be Kids Day in Reed Green as all children ages 12 and under receive Free Admission to the game. Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (9-6, 2-2) are coming off an 89-80 victory over Florida Atlantic on Thursday, Jan. 14. Brittanny Dinkins paced six Lady Eagles in scoring with 20 points. Brittny Norris netted 17 points while Caitlin Jenkins added a double-double of 14 points to go with 16 rebounds. Keri Jewett-Giles had 13 points and Jerontay Clemons and Lashyra Cotton chipped in 10 points apiece. The Lady Eagles finished the game shooting 62.1 percent from the field, while their hard-nosed defensive play held the visiting team to just 37.1 percent shooting.
Jenkins leads the Black and Gold with 12.6 points per game and a team-best 10.4 rebounds, while Dinkins adds 12.2 points and Clemons 11.7. Jayla King is pulling down an average 5.3 rebounds. Keri Jewett-Giles is handing out 3.9 assists per game and has a team-best 18 steals so far this season.
Southern Miss is averaging 62.5 points and 38.3 rebounds per game while shooting 40.9 percent from the field and 64.8 from the line. The Lady Eagles are giving up 59.7 points on 39 percent shooting from the field, and hold a +3.4 turnover margin against opponents.
A Look at FIU
FIU (2-13, 0-4) is coming off an 82-63 a loss at Louisiana Tech. Taylor Shade and Kristian Hudson led the team with 18 points each with Tianah Alvarado adding another 14. Alvarado and Shade pulled down five rebounds each for the Panthers.
In his first season at FIU, Head Coach Marlin Chinn welcomes just three newcomers and returns nine letterwinners from last season's team that went 3-26 (0-18 C-USA).
Shade leads the Panthers with 15.4 points per game, while Janka Hededus and Alvarado add 13.3 and 12.5 points, respectively. Destini Feagin averages a team-best 6.6 rebounds per game.
FIU is averaging 63.5 points and 31.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 40.4 percent from the field and 74 percent from the line. The Panthers are giving up 75.4 points to opponents.
Series Notes
This is the eighth meeting between the two teams dating back to 1991. Southern Miss leads the overall series 5-2 against FIU. Southern Miss won the first three meetings between the two teams, but the series is even at 2-2 in the last four meetings.
Next Up
The Lady Eagles begin a three-game road swing, traveling to Louisiana Tech for a Jan. 24 re-match. The game will be televised on ASN with a 12 p.m. start time.
