Volleyball Golden Eagles Travel to Jackson State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss volleyball team will take to the road again when the Golden Eagles travel to Jackson State for a mid-week match with the first serve set for 7 p.m. in the T. B. Ellis Gym.
Southern Miss Preview
Southern Miss (8-0) is coming off a big weekend at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash Tournament. The Golden Eagles went undefeated, claiming the team title. Stephany Purdue was named the tournament's MVP while Mary Pursell and Kylie Grandy earned all-tournament accolades.
Six Golden Eagles have recorded double figure kills led by Purdue with a team leading 4.87 kills per set on .259 hitting. Grandy is next at 2.80 kills per set. Rachel Johnson and Kelsey Chambers have 49 kills each. Sarah Bell guides the offense with 9.45 assists per set while Pursell patrols the back row averaging 5.10 digs per set. Ames leads the team in blocking at 1.39 blocks per set.
As a team, the Golden Eagles are averaging 13.47 kills on .227 hitting, 16.40 digs and 2.53 team blocks.
Scouting Jackson State
Jackson State enters the contest with a 0-7 record following a 3-0 loss to Nicholls in the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic. Taija Thomas leads the team in kills with 2.50 kills per set while Tyler Moorer is the dig leader with 3.30 per set. Jenna Siddiqui guides the offense with 7.83 assists per set. As a team, JSU is averaging 9.4 kills on .097 hitting, 10.4 digs and 1.4 team blocks.

What's Next?
Southern Miss travels to Oxford, Miss., for the Rebel Classic where the Golden Eagles will play Belmont at 1 p.m., Friday, followed by a match against Ole Miss at 5:30. Southern Miss concludes the Classic with Buffalo on Saturday at 10 a.m.
