Volleyball Eagles to Host South Alabama for Dollar Night

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team will step out of conference play to face South Alabama on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. in Reed Green Coliseum for Dollar Night. Admission will $1 as well as $1 hotdogs.
Southern Miss (13-5, 1-1) is coming off a 3-1 loss to Florida Atlantic. Rachel Johnson recorded a team-best 15 kills.
Stephany Purdue leads the team in kills with a 4.04 per set average followed by Kylie Grandy at 2.37 kills per set while leading the team in aces with 27. Sarah Bell guides the offense with a 9.44 assist per set average. Mary Pursell patrols the backrow defensively and averages 4.43 digs per set while Elise Ames leads the team in blocks at 1.21 per set. As a team, the Golden Eagles are averaging 12.70 kills on .204 hitting, 1.20 aces, 14.64 digs and 2.30 team blocks per set.
South Alabama enters the match with an overall record of 7-6 and 1-2 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Jaguars defeated Georgia Southern 3-1 last Saturday.
Mechell Daniel leads South Alabama offensively with 3.49 kills per set on .267 hitting. Emma Anderson guides the offense and averages 9.37 assists per set. Emily Hundt owns a team-best 3.29 digs per set. As a team, South Alabama is averaging 12.10 kills on .224 hitting, 14.59 digs and 1.87 team blocks.
This is the 42nd meeting between Southern Miss and South Alabama in a series dating back to the 1080 season. The Jaguars lead the overall series 22-19.
Southern Miss will hit the road for a pair of Conference USA matches, traveling to Charlotte on Oct. 1 and then to UAB on Oct. 4.
