Volleyball Eagles Ready For Florida Atlantic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team is set to host Florida Atlantic in Conference USA action in Reed Green Coliseum Friday. The match begins at 6 p.m.

Southern Miss enters the contest with a 13-4 overall record and 1-0 in league play after winning its conference opener against Louisiana Tech on Monday. Kelsey Chambers recorded a season-high 15 kills.
Stephany Purdue leads the team offensively with a 4.10 kill per set average followed by Kylie Grandy (2.45 kps). Sarah Bell directs the offense at 9.38 assists per set, while Mary Pursell has a team-leading 4.33 digs per set average. Elise Ames leads the team with 1.23 blocks per set. As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 12.70 kills, 1.20 aces, 14.68 digs and 2.33 team blocks per set.
Scouting the Owls
Florida Atlantic is 8-5 overall and 0-1 in C-USA play following 3-1 loss at FIU on Sunday. Maja Ristic and Brittney Brown lead the team with 3.47 and 3.09 kills per set, respectively. Ravee Golston paces the team with 4.34 digs per set. The duo of Ivone Martinez and Genesis Viera guide the offense with 6.82 and 5.23 assists per set. As a team, Florida Atlantic is averaging 14.20 kills, 1.24 aces, 17.16 digs and 2.33 team blocks per set.
The Series: Southern Miss vs. Florida Atlantic
This will be just the fifth all-time meeting between Southern Miss and Florida Atlantic dating back to the 2000 season. The Golden Eagles hold a 3-1 advantage in the series. The teams split last season with each team winning at home in the series.
Southern Miss remains at home to host South Alabama in non-conference action on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m.
