HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced the 14 student-athletes that received the C-USA Spring Spirit of Service award and Southern Miss softball's Danielle Block was one of the recipients.
The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season, with spring's honorees representing: baseball, men's and women's golf, women's rowing, softball, tennis and outdoor track and field.
Block holds a 3.949 GPA in biological sciences in the Honors College while serving as an integral part of the pitching rotation for the Southern Miss softball program. Even more importantly, the sophomore has given back to her community. A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Block has volunteered at the Mississippi Special Olympics Games at Camp Shelby and at Southern Pines Animal Shelter.
Academically, Block was a CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-District selection, a Conference USA All-Academic Team member and a C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medalist.
