Lady Eagle Hoops Conclude Two Game Homestand, Host UAB

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Lady Eagle basketball team concludes a two-game homestand, when Southern Miss hosts UAB on Saturday in a 4 p.m. tip-off.
The Lady Eagle contest can be heard on WHXB-FM 96.5 or at www.SouthernMiss.com with Josh West, voice of the Lady Eagles, providing the play-by-play action with legendary coach Kay James as color analyst.
Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (14-7, 7-3) are coming off a 70-65 overtime win against Middle Tennessee. Tamara Jones and Jerontay Clemons both recorded double-doubles. Jones finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds while Clemons had 20 points and 10 rebounds. Brittanny Dinkins chipped in 13 points off the bench. Southern Miss outscored MT 14-9 in the extra period including a 9-for-11 performance from the line.
Jones leads the team in scoring with 16.7 points while adding 6.3 rebounds per game. She ranks in a tie for seventh in the Conference USA in scoring and sixth in field goal percentage including ninth in three-point field goal percentage. Clemons is next at 12.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Kierra Jordan contributes 7.8 points and 5.0 rebounds. She is ninth in the league in field goal percentage, hitting 51.4 percent from the floor. Brooke Rhodes adds 8.2 points and is leading the league in three-point field goal percentage and is fourth in 3-point field goals made in C-USA.
The Lady Eagles are averaging 68.8 points on 45.5 percent shooting from the field and 37.2 rebounds per game. Southern Miss ranks second in field percentage while leading the league in three-point field goal percentage. The Lady Eagles rank second field goal percentage defense. The Lady Eagles have connected on 117-of-308 from behind the arc.
Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis is in her 11th season at the helm of the Lady Eagle program and her 24th season as a head coach.
A Look at UAB
UAB enters today's contest with a 12-9 record overall and 6-4 in Conference USA. The Blazers defeated Louisiana Tech on Thursday, 63-54. Janae Smith led the way with a game-high 26 points and seven rebounds. Chelsee Black chipped in nine points.
Smith is averaging 18.2 points and 7.5 rebounds while Black is next at 12.5 points per game. Miranda Burroughs adds 8.0 points per game.
UAB is averaging 61.3 points per game while allowing 58.6 points to lead the league. The Blazers are connecting on 40.9 percent from the floor and 35.8 percent from three, while allowing 38.3 percent from the field and 31.1 percent from beyond the arc. UAB is pulling down 36.7 rebounds per game and connecting on a league-leading 75.0 percent from the free throw line.

This is the 57th meeting between the two teams in a series that began in 1979 with UAB winning that matchup in Birmingham. Southern Miss leads the overall series 36-20. UAB won the previous meeting between the two teams this season in Birmingham.
