Lady Eagle Hoops Conclude Road Series at UTEP

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Lady Eagle basketball team concludes their road series at UTEP on Sunday, Mar. 1 at 3 p.m. central time in a nationally televised game.

Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (19-8, 12-4) are coming off a buzzer beater against UTSA where Alex Coyne took a loose ball and launched a three-pointer off the glass as time expired. Tamara Jones and Jerontay Clemons scored 12 points each. Jones also had a team-best nine rebounds. Southern Miss shot 50 percent from the field in the second half.
Jones leads the team in scoring with 15.9 points while adding 6.5 rebounds per game. She ranks eighth in the Conference USA in scoring and 10th in field goal percentage including 11th in three-point field goal percentage. Clemons is next at 12.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Kierra Jordan contributes 7.6 points and 5.5 rebounds. She is seventh in the league in field goal percentage, hitting 50.9 percent from the floor. Brooke Rhodes adds 8.1 points and leads the league in three-point field goal percentage and is fifth in 3-point field goals made in C-USA.
The Lady Eagles are averaging 68.0 points on 44.9 percent shooting from the field and 37.3 rebounds per game. Southern Miss ranks second in field percentage and first three-point field goal percentage. The Lady Eagles rank third field goal percentage defense. The Lady Eagles have connected on 140-of-391 from behind the arc.
Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis is in her 11th season at the helm of the Lady Eagle program and her 24th season as a head coach.
A Look at UTEP
UTEP enters today's contest with an 11-13 record overall and 6-9 in Conference USA. The Miners defeated LA Tech on Friday afternoon, 88-75. Sparkle Taylor led UTEP with a game-high 23 points while Cameasha Turner had 20 points and Stacie Telles chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds.
Turner is averaging 15.6 points to lead the team in scoring while Taylor adds 10.3 points. Turner also leads the team in rebounding at 5.8 rebounds per game.
UTEP is averaging 66.5 points per game while allowing 67.0 points. The Miners are connecting on 38.7 percent from the floor and 31.3 percent from three, while allowing 41.4 percent from the field and 31.1 percent from beyond the arc. UTEP is pulling down 39.2 rebounds per game and connecting on 68.0 percent from the free throw line.

This is the 15th meeting between the two teams. UTEP leads the overall series 10-4 that began in 1993. Southern Miss won the first two meetings between the teams. UTEP has won six of the last seven meetings.
