SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southern Miss men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to UTSA Sunday at the UTSA Tenner Center.
The Golden Eagles fall to 4-3 overall.
"This is only the second time in the season we have lost in doubles," head coach Zubin Engineer said. "We played well but came up short in both singles and doubles. The team is hungry to improve and the results will come automatically."
UTSA opened the match, posting wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Chao-Yu Huang and Wen-Po Tseng lost to Yannick Junger and Tomas Stillman (UTSA), 6-4, and Daniel Merker and Tarun Surat lost to Fabian Brand and Tito Moreiras (UTSA), 6-4. Alex Doleac and Brad Marriott had battled to a 5-5 tie at No. 3 against Diogo Casa and Joel Rubio (UTSA) before the match was halted.
In singles, Doleac recorded the team's only point at No. 4 with a three-set win. Doleac took the first set against Joao Riquelme (UTSA), 6-4, but dropped the second set, 6-3, in forcing a pro-set for the third set. Doleac went to win 10-7.
The Golden Eagles will take on Incarnate Word Monday at 12 p.m.
