HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team went through its final on-campus practice here Sunday afternoon before heading west for this Saturday's Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl.
The Golden Eagles went through an hour workout on the game field at M.M. Roberts Stadium, before transitioning into a mock game that allowed new Southern Miss offensive coordinator John Wozniak an opportunity to call plays while also working on preparing special teams. Wozniak replaces Chip Lindsey in this role, after Lindsey accepted a similar position at Arizona State earlier this month.
Southern Miss heads to Dallas Monday morning and will take Monday as its normal off day, before returning to the practice field on Tuesday to start game-week preparations for its opponent next Saturday, Washington.
This will be the first bowl game for the Golden Eagles since defeating Nevada 24-17 in the 2011 Hawai'i Bowl. The game marks the 23rd bowl appearance for the school and the 11th in the last 15 seasons.
The Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl takes place Saturday, Dec. 26, at 1:20 p.m. (CT), at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Tickets for the game can be purchased online at SouthernMissTickets.com, over the phone at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or in person at the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office weekdays from 8 a.m., until 5 p.m.
