Getting to Know ... Tajanay Veiga

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- As the countdown continues for the season-opener for the Lady Eagles, a women's basketball player will be featured each day until the tip-off against Alabama State on Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. in the Preseason WNIT.
With just four days remaining as junior point guard Tajanay Veiga is the featured player for this countdown.
Veiga, a Boston, Mass., native is one of six juniors and one of four junior college transfers that head coach Joye Lee-McNelis will count on to guide the Lady Eagles this season. Veiga brings depth at the point guard position as well as excellent ball-handling and passing skills. She is capable of playing more than one position.
Will at Midland College, Veiga averaged 14.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists in earning all-conference first team honors. She was named to the All-Region team.
Veiga attended Fenway High School where she continues the school record for career points (2,082), rebounds (1,220) and assists (860). She is a member of the elite 2,000 point club. She is the first player in her school's history to have her jersey retired. She was voted her team's captain for four-straight years while being named to the Boston City League all-star team. She was selected to the American Family Insurance All-USA Massachusetts team and led Fenway to back-to-back D4 state titles. She was a two time D4 Player of the Year. She is the daughter of Joviana Veiga and Sam Lee.
