Getting to Know ... Megan Brown

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- As the countdown continues toward the season opener for the Lady Eagle basketball team, a Lady Eagle player will be featured each day until opening day. Southern Miss opens the regular season against Alabama State in the Preseason WNIT on Nov. 13 at 11 a.m.
With just 10 days away, sophomore guard Megan Brown will be the featured player.
Brown turned in a solid rookie campaign in which she made an immediate impact on the team. She will provide additional depth in the back and will be counted on to take a leadership role. She is a good defender and excellent shooter. Not only did Brown have a good year on the court but also in the classroom as well. Brown received a Conference USA Academic Medal and was named to the C-USA commissioner's Honor Roll.
Last season, Brown played in all 36 games and drew two starting assignments. She was one of four players to play in all 36 games. She averaged 3.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per game and finished with 26 assists and 17 steals. She scored in double figures in a pair of games including a season high 17 points against North Texas where she was nearly perfect from the field, going 4-of-5 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. She finished the season shooting 73.7 percent from the free throw line.
Prior to joining the Lady Eagles, Brown played at Salmen High School where she was a four-year letterwinner and starter for Coach Kevin Anderson. She averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds as a senior. She was a Louisiana all-state selection and scored 1,061 points in her career. She was a three-time all-district selection while earning all-Metro honors as well. Brown helped her team win the district 4A championship while being tabbed the team's MVP and top defender. She also lettered in volleyball and was named to the all-district and team's MVP. She is the daughter of Tony and Diane Brown and has two sisters, Marisa and Theresa. She is a communication study major.
