HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
The Southern Miss football team adjusted its practice schedule, Wednesday, in advance of its Conference USA West Division deciding game this weekend at Louisiana Tech.
Because of no scheduled classes on the Golden Eagle campus for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Golden Eagles got an early start to the day with team and position meetings during the morning hours before many of them spent time at Christian Services in downtown Hattiesburg giving back to the community by helping to serve lunches.
Following the trip to Christian Services, the Golden Eagles (8-3 overall, 6-1 C-USA West) hit the Joe P. Park Practice Facility about 30 minutes earlier than usual in full pads to continue to install their game plan against Louisiana Tech.
In what has been described as an evenly matched contest, the Golden Eagles enter the weekend ranked No. 1 in both total offense (533.0 yards per game) and total defense (346.1) in C-USA, while the Bulldogs (8-3, 6-1) rank third in both categories at 471.3 yards per game on offense and 364.3 yards on defense.
The Golden Eagles also enter the contest at 197.0 rushing yards per game, which leads C-USA. LA Tech is the stingiest team in the league in rushing defense, leading the conference at allowing just 109.5 yards per contest.
The winner of this game takes on the East Division champion, which will be decided a day before in a matchup between WKU and Marshall, on Saturday, Dec. 5.
The Golden Eagles and Bulldogs kick off at 11 a.m., from Joe Aillet Stadium in Ruston, La. The game be seen on FOX Sports Southeast, as well as be heard on one of the affiliates of the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network.
