Getting to Know ... Shayla Wilson

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- As the countdown continues for the season-opener, a Lady Eagle basketball player will be featured each day in preparation for the 2015-16 season. The Lady Eagles open the season at home, hosting Alabama State in the opening round of the Preseason WNIT on Friday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m.
With 13 days until tipoff for the regular season, junior college transfer Shayla Wilson will be featured. Wilson adds depth to the post position as she possesses a strong presence inside. She is capable of outside game as well. She is a solid rebounding.
Wilson comes to Southern Miss after a standout career at St. Petersburg College where she played for Coach Denisha Davidson. She averaged 17.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game as sophomore. She was named the Southern Conference Player of the Year while earning first team all-conference honors and FCSAA all-region team accolades. Wilson also received NJCAA National Player of the Week honors.
Wilson prepped at Jefferson High School where she finished her career with over 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds, finishing as the school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder. While there, she was named first team all-district as well as earning second team all-district three times. She was an All-Region honorable mention and was selected to the Hillsborough County All-Star Team and the FABC All-Star team. She helped her team win four district titles and a regional title. She is the daughter Bernard and Evelyn Wilson. She is an interdisciplinary study major.
