Football Practice Report: Oct. 6

Report: Dealing with a short week of practice, the Golden Eagles enjoyed their only workout before heading to Marshall on Thursday in full pads, going through their normal Wednesday practice a day early. Southern Miss enjoyed weather in the low 80s as they team went through both individual and team drills during the 2 ½ hour workout.

On the Wednesday practice taking place on a Tuesday...
"It was solid. I think our spirit was good and the guys were fired up, so that part was good. It's just hard because we got some stuff done yesterday, but we had to cram in some stuff like third-down and red zone. There are some tweaks just like every week, but we usually get them out between Tuesday and Wednesday. This week we had to cram them all into one. It was good today, just some things we have to clean up then head up north."
On if he found any wrinkles from Marshall or something they might do that he wasn't expecting...
"No, they have been successful in what they do. They have recruited well and have great players. Offensively they are pretty much the same. It doesn't change in what they believe. Obviously you have different players at quarterback, receiver and running back. The people making the plays change, but they still play their style. Their defense is the same, so if you can go out and accomplish what you can do then you give yourselves a chance. If you can't do that, then you don't because they have good players."
On the last couple of games with Marshall...
"In 2013, we came out and had no chance and then last year we didn't do it well enough. We had every opportunity early, then in the middle of the game, we couldn't get off the field on third down and couldn't continue scoring with them. So that was frustrating, but we are significantly better than we were last year."
