Getting to Know Caitlin Jenkins

As the countdown for the season-opener approaches, a Lady Eagle player will be featured in a Golden Eagle feature.
Only 15 days from the regular season tipoff, freshman center Caitlin Jenkins begins the series. Jenkins is expected make an immediate impact. She provides a big presence inside with good hands while having the ability to runs the floor well. She has a great touch around the basket as well as facing the basket.
"Caitlin is extremely competitive," Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis said. "She hates to lose. There is a difference is hating to lose and loving to win. It will be a war for her. Fundamentally, she's having to learn a whole lot. She is learning and she wants to be very good. Her ceiling is unlimited of what she can become."
Prior to coming to Southern Miss, Jenkins played at Huntington High School where she was a four-year letterwinner for Coach Danielle Butler. She averaged 30 points and 14 rebounds per game as a senior. She was named Player of the Year while receiving first team all-state honors for four-straight seasons. Jenkins also earned first team all-district, all-area and all-region four times each. She scored a career-high 48 points against Loyola and Fair Park. She led her team to the conference and sectional championship and was named to the Louisiana All-Star team. She is the daughter of Michael and Catherine Jenkins. She has two brothers and one sister as brother Javaria plays basketball at Grambling. Jenkins plans to major in sport coaching.
