Today's captains were quarterback wide receiver Markese Triplett, linebacker Brian Anderson and defensive linemen Dasman McCullum and Nic Bekkers.

Southern Miss is 1-4 all-time against Rice, including 1-2 in Hattiesburg.

Offensive Notes
Quarterback Nick Mullens was 24-of-45 for a season-high 283 yards and two touchdowns.
Wide receiver Michael Thomas caught a 30-yard touchdown in the second quarter. It was his first career touchdown and the longest reception of his career.
Mullens connected with James Cox on a 41-yard reception in the third quarter. It was the longest pass and catch of the season for both.
Cox caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Mullens in the fourth quarter. It was his second touchdown of the year and fourth of his career.
Mullens now has five touchdown passes on the year and 18 for his career.
Running back George Payne scored on a one-yard run in the third quarter. It was his third rushing touchdown of the year and fourth of his career.
Defensive Notes
Southern Miss recorded a season-high nine-tackles for loss.
Defensive back Picasso Nelson, Jr. recorded an interception for the second straight game.
The interception gives the Golden Eagles six on the year, the most since recording 19 in 2011.
Southern Miss has now forced a turnover in six straight games dating back to last season.
Defensive lineman Dasman McCullum recorded his second sack of the year in the third quarter. It was the fifth of his career.
Special Teams Notes
Kicker Corey Acosta connected on a career-long 52-yard field goal in the second quarter. It was his second field goal of at least 50 yards on the season.
Acosta missed on an extra point in the third quarter. It was his first missed extra point since 2012.
