Volleyball Eagles Open Conference USA Play at Louisiana Tech

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team is looking to snap a two-match losing streak when the Golden Eagles open Conference USA play at Louisiana Tech on Monday. First serve is 7 p.m.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 1-2 weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Stephany Purdue earned all-tournament honors.
Five players have recorded 100 or more kills on the season. Purdue is tops on the team with a 3.26 per set average followed by Quinci Hayward at 3.09. Jasmine Crowell is averaging 2.62 followed by Lydia Bonner with 2.23 and Elise Ames at 2.00. Ames is the team leader in attack percentage with .396 also ranks second in C-USA. Mary Pursell leads the team in digs with 4.04 digs per set while Alex Pfefferle is next at 2.95. Kristen Fleming and Makareta Rademakers guide the team with 7.85 and 5.04 assists per set.
As a team, the Golden Eagles are averaging 14.05 kills, 1.31 aces, 15.41 digs and 1.86 team blocks. Southern Miss leads the league in opponent hitting percent, assists and kills.
Louisiana Tech enters the match with 7-6 record overall after posting back-to-back wins. Rebecca Redgen leads the team in kills with 3.27 kills per set. Alejandra Aviles is tops on the team in digs with 3.78 per set. As a team, LA Tech is averaging 11.96 kills per set on .179 hitting, 1.09 aces, 14.91 digs and 2.20 team blocks.
Southern Miss leads the series against Louisiana Tech, 9-3. The Golden Eagles won the only meeting between the two teams last season 3-0.
Following the Louisiana Tech match, the Golden Eagles will play its first home match since Aug. 29 when Southern Miss will host Rice on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
