HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Southern Mississippi softball team hosts nationally-ranked Alabama in a single game on Tuesday evening at the Southern Miss softball complex. The game between the Golden Eagles and the Crimson Tide is slated for 6:00 p.m.
Live stats and in-game tweets (@USMSoftball) will be available throughout the game.
The game will be Team Night with free admission for any softball team that submits a roster to the Southern Miss Marketing Department by Monday, April 21. Teams are asked to email full rosters to cody.bielstein@eagles.usm.edu. In addition, the game will also be Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night with $3 tickets for all USM Faculty and Staff with a valid ID.
Southern Miss enters the midweek contest with a 22-24 overall record. The Golden Eagles won a three-game Conference USA series on the road against Louisiana Tech, 2-1, to improve to 10-11 in C-USA play.
Alabama comes to Hattiesburg with a 39-8 overall record, including a 15-3 mark in SEC play. The Crimson Tide enters the nonconference midweek tilt after claiming a pair of nonconference games over the weekend against Georgia Southern and North Carolina.
The Tide holds a slight 4-3 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools. The Black and Gold are 2-0 all-time against Alabama in Hattiesburg, but 0-4 against the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Southern Miss claimed the first game of the series back in 2000 - a 3-0 victory in the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. for the only neutral site meeting between the two teams.
Last season, the Crimson Tide posted an 11-0 run-rule victory over the Golden Eagles in Tuscaloosa. Sarah Evans and Mackenzie Sher each recorded hits in the game, while pitcher Kaitlin Wilson notched a team-best three strikeouts in two relief innings.
