HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Southern Mississippi softball team hosts a three-game Conference USA series against Texas-San Antonio this weekend at the Southern Miss Softball Complex. The weekend begins with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. and concludes with a single game on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
Live stats and in-game tweets (@USMSoftball) will be available throughout the weekend.
The weekend series with UTSA is slated to be Military Appreciation Weekend. There is free admission for all active, retired or reserve members of the armed forces with a valid military ID. In addition, the first 100 fans at each game receive a military appreciation spirit band.
The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with a 16-16 overall, notching the most wins since the Golden Eagles had 17 wins in 2011. Southern Miss has a .500 or better record 32 games into the season for the first time since 2005 when the Golden Eagles started the season 17-15.
Southern Miss and UTSA have met five times in program history with the Black and Gold holding a 5-0 overall record in the series. All five games in the series were played at neutral sites - the UT Arlington Tournament (Grand Prairie, Texas), Oklahoma/Worth Invitational (Norman, Okla.), Pepsi Intercollegiate (Grand Prairie, Texas) and M&F Bank Fastpitch Classic (Ridgeland, Miss.).
The meeting between the two teams will be the first at either teams' home field, as well as the first meeting since 2004.
The Golden Eagles hold a 5-4 Conference USA record, while the Roadrunners are 4-2 in league play.
