Tennis Eagles Fall to No. 62 Idaho

The Southern Miss men's tennis team split matches on the opening day of the Boise State Springhill Suites Invitational after losing to No. 62 Idaho 4-2 before bouncing back to take the evening match with a 6-1 victory over Marquette.
Southern Miss upped its record to 14-7.
Against Idaho, the Vandals took the early 1-0 after winning two of the three doubles. Paulo Alvarado and Juan Escobar posted an 8-5 win over Dmitry Perevoshchikov and Matt Oddonetto (UI) at No. 3 doubles. Idaho took wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
In singles competition, Benjamin Feldmann lost to Marius Cirstea (IU) on court 3 by a score of 6-4, 7-6 (2).
The Golden Eagles earned their first point of the match when Matt Frost defeated No. 122 Dmitry Perevoschikov on court 1 in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Southern Miss then tied the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win by Alvarado at No. 5 singles over Cesar Torres.
Idaho's Abid Akbar topped Andrew Goodwin 7-6 (2), 6-4 on court 2 before Jose Bendeck clinched the match for the Vandals at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Vasco Valverde.
