Southern Miss Softball Announces Fall Scrimmage Dates

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Six dates during the month of October will allow fans to catch the Southern Miss softball team in action at the Southern Miss Softball Complex as coaches Jon Malgradi and Kirsten Voak announced the 2012 Fall Schedule on Thursday. The second year co-head coaches and the Golden Eagles will play host to four visiting squads throughout the month of October as well as host their annual Alumni Game and Black and Gold World Series event to round out the fall schedule.
"We have a lot of new talent on this team and we're excited to get them on the field against another team," said Voak. "They have worked extremely hard in their conditioning and individual workouts over the summer to prepare for the upcoming season. It's time to lace up against someone else and see where we stand."
Southern Miss will host Faulkner State in a double header on Oct. 10 and cross-town foe William Carey on Oct. 12. Both games are set for 5 p.m. first pitches.
On Oct. 13, the Golden Eagles will host Jones County Junior College and the Lady Crusaders again in a round robin event beginning at 10 a.m. Southern Miss will play two games against the Bobcats at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
A week later, the annual Alumni Game is set to take place on Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. All former Golden Eagle softballers are encouraged to attend and take part in the action. Following the game, the staff will host a team and alumni tailgate in conjunction with the Homecoming football game as Southern Miss takes on conference rival Marshall at 6 p.m.
The Golden Eagles will wrap up their fall schedule on Oct. 26 and 27 with the Black and Gold World Series, a trio of intrasquad showdowns set for 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. and Noon on Saturday.
Admission to all of these events is free of charge.
