HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Rain clouds dampened the fields of the Joe P. Park Practice Facility on Friday, but it wasn't enough to keep the Southern Miss Golden Eagles off the field as they worked for just over two hours in helmets and shoulder pads.
The Golden Eagles are now just one week away from their season opener at Nebraska next Saturday and have continued to install their game plan.
"We put in about 15 to 20 minutes on Nebraska today," said coach Ellis Johnson. "This is kind of the last day of camp - the last time we could really work a lot of [first team] on [first team], and we just continued to mix red zone, third down, first down and all the other field zones."
Johnson and his coaching staff will let the team take Saturday off for a necessary day of rest before coming back on Sunday for film work as they enter game week preparations.
"We're making progress, I think," Johnson added. "We'll find out when we play somebody if we're any good but I think as far as focus and effort and execution are concerned, it gets a little bit better each day."
