Caroline Walker Named to C-USA All-Freshman Team

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - On the heels of her recently awarded Freshman of the Year award, Southern Miss shortstop Caroline Walker was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team in a release from the conference office on Wednesday.
Walker's other national honor came from CollegeSportsMadness.com, as she was named the top freshman player in the conference for 2012.
The starting shortstop from Woodville, Miss., has posted team-best marks for batting average (.328), slugging percentage (.448) and on-base percentage (.403) this season and will lead the Golden Eagles into the C-USA Softball Championship tournament beginning tomorrow in Birmingham, Ala.
Up first for Southern Miss (13-33, 4-19) in the single elimination tournament is regular season champion Tulsa (38-12, 19-5), led by C-USA Coach of the Year and Co-Pitcher of the Year John Bargfeldt and Lacey Middlebrooks, respectively.
First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. from the UAB Softball Field.
