MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama's Hannah Campbell struck out 13 batters and allowed just one hit as the Jaguars defeated Southern Miss 6-0 on Sunday at Jaguar Field.
It was the second game in as many days between Southern Miss (12-24) and the Jaguars (27-12) as Sunday's game was a make-up after the two squads were rained out midweek a month ago.
After Beth Dietrich recorded a quick pair of outs in the second inning, South Alabama rallied with a single and stolen base from Christin Crocker and a double from Haley Richards to go up 1-0.
In the fourth, the Jaguars loaded the bases with three bunt singles and Alyssa Linn cleared them with a one-out triple to center field to push their lead to 4-0.
South Alabama capped their scoring in the fifth with two more runs driven in by Linn, her fourth of the day, and Crocker.
Danielle LaPointe registered the lone hit for the Golden Eagles, a leadoff single to left field in the second inning.
Dietrich (6-10) took the loss for Southern Miss after allowing nine hits and six runs while striking out three and walking two. Campbell (16-8) earned the victory for the Jaguars after five innings of work.
Southern Miss will return to the field on Tuesday when they host in-state foe Mississippi State at 6 p.m. at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
