HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Even though it took an extra day, the Southern Miss men's tennis team was able to pull out a 4-1 win over Troy Sunday morning at the USM Tennis Courts.
The match began on Friday, but heavy rains forced the teams to suspend action until Sunday. In between, both teams were in action as Southern Miss travel to Tulane and Troy started its match with Lamar on Saturday. Troy and Lamar could not finish because of darkness and had to finish their match on Sunday morning as well.
The Golden Eagles took the early lead, 1-0 after posting wins at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles. Andrew Goodwin and Michael Elortegui teamed together for an 8-2 win over Patrick Eichler and Tadju Davies. On Sunday morning, the singles picked up where they left off on Friday. Jovan Zeljkovic had to battled back in the third set to claim a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 over Davies at No. 5. Frost then clinched the match for the Golden Eagles with a 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 win over Rouchdi at No. 1.
