Men's Tennis Edged by Nevada, 4-3

BOISE, Idaho - The Southern Miss men's tennis team dropped a close match to Nevada by a score of 4-3 and finished fourth in the Boise State Spring Classic on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles slip to 8-11 while Nevada improves to 7-10.
Southern Miss took the early 1-0 lead after posting wins at the No. 1 and 3 doubles. Andrew Goodwin/Michael Elortegui duo outlasted Moez Echargui/Nathan Reix, 8-6. Shortly afterwards, Inaki Belloso and Juan Escobar claimed an 8-6 win over Wessim Derberl and Fernando Suango.
In singles play, Goodwin put the Golden Eagles up 2-1 with his 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 against Philip Hinojosa.
Nevada got its first point on court 2 when Victor Ouvrard defeated Belloso, 6-2, 6-0, then followed with a three-set victory at No. 6 with Quentin Mege outlasting Elortegui, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 to even the score at 2-2.
Jovan Zeljkovic then defeated Suango at No. 4 by a score of 6-4, 7-5. Nevada then took the final two matches on court 1 and 3 to end the match. Derberl handed Paula Alvarado a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 loss at No. 1 before Echarquil clinched the match for the Wolfpack with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Escobar.
Southern Miss heads to the Conference USA Shootout at UAB on March 31 and April 1.
