Pierce Earns Conference USA Freshman of the Week Honors

IRVING, Texas - Sophomore Akil Simpson of SMU and redshirt freshman Nitesha Pierce of Southern Miss have been named Conference USA Women's Basketball Players of the Week.
Pierce (5-10, F/GULFPORT, MISS. / HARRISON CENTRAL HS) turned in two solid performances in helping Southern Miss post a win at Memphis and against East Carolina. She averaged 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the field and 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from the free throw line. Pierce just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine boards while making all three of her free throws at Memphis. She followed that performance with 11 points and five rebounds and converted 5-of-8 shots from the field against ECU. She also had three steals, two assists and drew a combined six charges between the two games. This is Pierce's first Freshman of the Week honor.
