Lady Eagles Set to Entertain League-Leader UTEP

Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles are coming off a 72-43 loss at Rice on Jan. 22. Jamierra Faulkner and Tanecka Carey scored in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Southern Miss failed to score a three-point goal for the first time this season.
Carey continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding at 16.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game with Faulkner is next at 15.4 points per contest. As a team, USM is shooting 40 percent from the field and 61.8 percent from the line while averaging 59.8 points and 37.4 rebounds per outing.
Scouting the Miners
UTEP is coming off an 87-43 victory over Houston on Sunday. All 13 Miner players contributed to the win as Kayla Thornton led the way with 18 points. Nine other players scored five or more points. The Miners controlled to the boards, outrebounding Houston 53-37. The team handed out 25 assists on 33 field goals.
Gloria Brown leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 11.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game while Thornton adds 10.2 points per outing. As a team, the Miners are shooting 40.9 percent from the field and 67.6 percent from the line while averaging 68.8 points and 44.5 rebounds per contest. Coach Keitha Adams is in her 11th season at UTEP.
The Series: Southern Miss vs. UTEP
UTEP leads the series with Southern Miss 5-3 in a series that dates back to 1993. Southern Miss won the first meeting on Dec. 21, 1993, 80-53. Last season, the UTEP won the only meeting between the two teams in El Paso, 77-49.

Following the UTEP game, Southern Miss hits the road for a game at UAB on Jan. 29 at 2 p.m.
