Golden Eagles Return Home for C-USA Contest
- Southern Miss plays the fi rst of four Conference USA home games this week when they entertain Rice in a 6:30 p.m., start.
- The game will be the school's annual "BLACKOUT" game, in which fans are encouraged to wear black to the game.
- Since the renovation of The Rock for the 1976 season, the Golden Eagles have posted a 126-44 (.741) record at home over that span.
- The Golden Eagles have won their last three home games.
- Southern Miss is 77-33 overall and 39-15 at home in C-USA games.
- The program is 12-3 in their fi rst home league game during a season.
The Rice Series
- In a series that dates back to the 2007 campaign, Rice has won both meetings between the schools, including a 31-29 decision in Hattiesburg in 2007 and a 45-40 win in 2008. (see page 5 for a breakdown of the series)
- The Golden Eagles rallied from a 24-point defi cit to start the 4th quarter in the 2007 meeting at The Rock and almost tied the game with 2:46 to play but could not covert the 2-point conversion to fall by two points in a Wednesday night contest.
Notes from Virginia Contest
- Southern Miss fi nished the month of September with a 3-1 mark and USM is now 10-5 under Larry Fedora in the month of September.
- The Golden Eagles won on the road at Virginia, marking the fi rst road victory over a school from a BCS Automatic-Qualifying Conference since a 21-17 victory at Nebraska on 9/11/04.
- Austin Davis threw for over 300 yards for the second time this season at Virginia, hitting on 27-of-41 passes with 3 TD passes. It was the 21st multi-TD game of his career in 35 starts and the sixth time he notched at least three TD passes.
- LB Korey Williams registered his third consecutive week with an interception as he tallied a late second-quarter pick.
- Southern Miss was limited to just 61 yards rushing, but it was the fi rst time under Fedora that the Golden Eagles did not rush for 100 yards and won the contest in five tries.
