HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss returned to the practice field on Wednesday afternoon as they continued to install their gameplan to take on Virginia on Saturday.
The two hour practice at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility was upbeat and physical as the Golden Eagles enjoyed warmer temperatures and sunny skies.
For fourth-year coach Larry Fedora, the attitude was right where he needed it to be with just one full practice remaining.
"We finished installing the gameplan and all of the critical situations," said Fedora. "Tomorrow we'll polish everything up. We finished up today and got some special teams work done and got a lot covered today. The energy level was really good, and I liked the way everyone moved around, the intensity, everything."
Saturday's game will be the second time the Golden Eagles (2-1, 0-1 C-USA) take on the Cavaliers (2-1, 0-1 ACC) but Fedora isn't expecting to see the same style of play he witnessed two years ago.
"It's a total philosophical difference," noted Fedora. "They are a pro-style offense now. It's a lot of shifting and motions and movements. They are going to be physical and bring it downhill all those things. Defensively, they are much more multiple and too quite a few more things.
Saturday's matchup is set for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff and will be broadcast on Regional Sports Networks including Comcast Mid-Atlantic, Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Carolinas, Fox Sports Florida and New England Sports Network (NESN). Additional regional networks may add the game to their broadcast lineup.
