HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Fresh off its victory over Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss (2-1, 0-1 C-USA) hit the field inside M.M. Roberts Stadium on Tuesday afternoon as they continued preparations for their next opponent, Virginia.
The two-hour practice took place under clear skies in mild temperatures and coach Larry Fedora was pleased with the effort as the team continued to install the game plan for their Atlantic Coast Conference Foe.
"There were a lot of guys flying around out there today. A lot of energy," added Fedora. "I was pleased with the effort but we have a lot of things to plan for. There is a lot of work to be done."
Fedora's squad defeated the Cavalier's 37-34 in Hattiesburg two years ago and has familiarity with the 2011 brand of Virginia football.
"You hope (the spread offense allows us to get favorable matchups)," Fedora said. "They are real big on both sides of the ball. Not just on their lines, but also in their linebackers, their defensive backs and their tight ends. They're big and they run well. (Virginia head coach Mike London) has done a good job with them. They played hard and it will be a heck of a game in their place."
Saturday's matchup is set for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff and will be broadcast on Regional Sports Networks including Comcast Mid-Atlantic, Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Carolinas, Fox Sports Florida and New England Sports Network (NESN). Additional regional networks may add the game to their broadcast lineup.
