The Fox Sports crew was on hand to film practice and get a wide range of shots of the Golden Eagles and Southern Miss in general. Interviews with head coach Larry Fedora and seniors Cordarro Law and Austin Davis will also air on Fox Sports in the Fall.
Davis and senior linebacker Korey Williams were fitted with on-helmet cameras while Fedora sported a pair of high definition sunglasses and a microphone for the duration of the practice.
However, for the fourth year head coach, the talk was on the play of his team in their first day of full pads, especially the play of some of his younger athletes.
"It was a great practice - it was a lot of fun," Fedora said. "Full pads; people were hitting; pads were popping; helmets were coming off. That was a lot of fun. There were some good licks. The defense definitely got (the best of the offense) today."
Fedora was even able to give a nod to his freshman class for their performance through camp.
"They've done some nice things," noted Fedora. "Now, their heads will be smoking because we're in day four of install and we've got the rest of it going in tomorrow. So it will be just about 75-percent of the offense that's going to be in this season. That's tough on them."
The preseason camp runs until Aug. 23 and the Golden Eagles will practice once each day with the exception of two-a-day workouts on Aug. 11, 16 and 23 with a scheduled off-day on Aug. 15.
The Golden Eagles, which have recorded a school-record tying 17 consecutive winning seasons and earned nine straight postseason bowl berths, begin the process of getting ready for its season opener with a Sept. 3, contest versus Louisiana Tech at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium.
Season tickets, as well as individual game seats, are available for purchase by going online at SouthernMiss.com, or by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or visiting the Pat Ferlise Center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m., until 5 p.m.
