HATTIESBURG, Miss. - With two games down in the 2011 campaign, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (0-1-1) begin their second weekend of play on Friday when they play host to Jacksonville State (0-2-0) at 4 p.m. at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
On Sunday, the Golden Eagles travel to Louisiana-Lafayette (1-1-0) for a 1 p.m. match.
The Golden Eagles and Gamecocks have met just once in their history with JSU recording a 2-0 victory in 2005. In the first two matches of the season, JSU freshman Courtney Hurt has led the offensive attack with a team-high seven shots. Defensively, the Gamecocks have used a two-keeper rotation in goal with juniors Katelyn Geddings and Ali Koenig.
Against Louisiana, Southern Miss holds a 2-1-1 all-time record in the series but fell in the most recent match in 2009, 1-0, in Hattiesburg. Louisiana enters the weekend off a 1-1-0 showing in their opening weekend. The squad took a 1-0 win over Northwestern State before falling 3-0 to LSU.
The Black and Gold has been led offensively by junior Jordan Wagner with eight shots. Between the pipes, the Golden Eagles have used a two-keeper rotation as senior Hannah Vanderboegh and sophomore Lindsey Schwaner both have a match on their record.
Admission to all Southern Miss women's soccer matches is free.
