HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss senior place kicker Danny Hrapmann (New Orleans, La.) was chosen as a third-team preseason All-America selection by Athlon Sports' preseason football magazine which hits newsstands in June.
Hrapmann, a first-team Walt Camp All-American last December, and the first since Ray Guy was a first-teamer in 1972, belted 55-of-55 extra point attempts in 2010 and converted 26-of-31 field goal tries. Hrapmann converted a school-record five field goals against East Carolina last season.
Five Golden Eagles earned preseason All-Conference USA honors, including Hrapmann and defensive lineman Cordarro Law (Whitfield, Ala.) as first-team selections. Offensive lineman Lamar Holmes (Gastonia, N.C.), linebacker Korey Williams (New Orleans, La.) and cornerback Deron Wilson (New Orleans, La.) were all named to the publication's second team.
Athlon Sports also predicts Southern Miss will finish second in Conference USA's Eastern Division.
The Golden Eagles open the 2011 season Saturday, Sept. 3, against Louisiana Tech at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium.
