Marc Bourgeois Named Academic All-American

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Senior Southern Miss baseball player Marc Bourgeois was chosen to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Baseball First Team as designated hitter, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and released Tuesday morning.
Bourgeois is the 10th Southern Miss baseball student-athlete to be honored with this award since its first selection in 1991, and is the seventh overall first-team selection for the program. Southern Miss has also had two second-team picks and one third-team selection.
Bourgeois, who has played both in the outfield and at the designated hitter spot, holds a 3.82 grade point average in Construction Engineering. His on-field exploits has been just as solid as he has posted a .352 batting average with 10 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 35 RBI. He also captured one C-USA Hitter of the Week award this season.
Bourgeois also has enjoyed great success in Conference USA games, as he holds a .380 batting mark with four home runs and 23 RBI.
This is the second academic award in as many days as he was chosen to the C-USA All-Academic Team. It was his first honor for that accolade.
