"We knew Southern Miss would be a scrappy team tonight but we need to play better going forward. You have to play your best game every time in order to advance in this tournament. I hope we come out with more intensity tomorrow."
On Amanda Crabtree... "It was definitely nice to see Amanda come in and give us some good innings, but even she will need to be better going forward if we are to win the next two days."
Amanda Crabtress, Houston(Senior, Pitcher)
Opening Statement...
"We definitely did not play our best game tonight but good teams find a way to win. I think it proved that we can have a little bit of an off night but still push through it. No win is recorded as an ugly one in the books so we will take it. We know what we need to fix going into tomorrow and beyond."
On Southern Miss adjusting to her pitching...
"Southern Miss has seen me pitch quite a lot this year and I think they made adjustments nicely. Now it's time for me to adjust as a pitcher and go after these teams that haven't seen me as much so they don't get those hits."
Head Coach Howard Dobson
Opening Statement...
"Our biggest goal was to come out here and compete. We faced them three times earlier in the year and didn't fare too well. We wanted to change that mindset. "We came out and knew it was winner take all. There was no tomorrow. We were going to throw all our pitchers and hit all our hitters if we had to. We didn't want to save anybody. "I thought they played well. We had a shot at it, but just couldn't string things together. I tip my hat to Houston and its pitching staff. They're very good as an entire group. They kept us off balance. All in all, we gave it everything we had, but just didn't have enough."
On Alexis Hurley's home run...
"We preach to the team every year, especially this one, that when a team scores you want to respond right away. We wanted to get momentum back on our side. The longer you wait, the harder it is to get momentum back on your side."
"It was really big for Alexis to step in and hit that home run. All of a sudden, they were back on their heels. Even though we were still losing, momentum was back on our side. It was really nice to see them come back and answer back."
Alexis Hurley, Southern Miss (Senior, Designated Player)
Opening Statement...
"I thought we fought hard. We were the underdog throughout the whole game. We gave it our all. Things just didn't go our way. I'm sure the team will learn from this experience tonight."
On her home run...
"It felt amazing. I've been hitting pretty well lately. That was probably my most memorable hit. I'm sure I'll remember that for forever."
