HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss Head Women's Basketball Coach Joye Lee-McNelis has announced the signing of Ryan Green of Crowley, La., to a national letter of intent and grant-in-aid for the 2011-12 academic year.
"We are excited to have Ryan as a part of our Lady Eagle program," McNelis said. "She brings depth with athleticism to our power forward position. Her skill set is versatile. She can score facing the basket as well as with her back to the basket. She plays and practices with a passion. Her personality is contagious and will be a perfect asset to our program. She will have three years of eligibility. We welcome Ryan to our Lady Eagle Family."
Green, a 6-2 forward, averaged 14 points and nine rebounds for Coach Bob McKinley of Weatherford Community College. She earned second team all-state and all-region honors.
Green prepped at Crowley High School where she was a three year letterwinner for Coach Allen Neff. She earned all-district, all-region and all-state for three consecutive years. She averaged 24 points and 15 rebounds per game as a senior.
While at Crowley High School, she was also a member of the track and field team winning the Class 4A state championship in the high jump. She garnered All-American honors in the high jump as well as earning all-state accolades.
"I chose to come to Southern Miss because of the family atmosphere," Green said. "Everyone was so welcoming and really wants to help me succeed in not only athletics but in academics as well. I believe that Southern Miss is the best place for me to reach my full potential as a student, person and basketball player..I am excited to be a Lady Eagle."
