Softball Struggles in Game Two Versus Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. -- The Southern Miss softball team struggled in game two of the doubleheader, dropping an 8-0 decision to Tulsa at the Hardesty Complex.
Tulsa's Jordan Kinard (8-4) stymied the Golden Eagle offense as she came within one walk throwing a perfect game and had to settle for a no-hit shutout in picking up an 8-0 win.
USM's Courtney Ramos (1-8) took the loss for the Golden Eagles, working 3.2 innings.
Tulsa (31-9, 12-2) scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the second inning. Kelly Chapman opened the inning with an infield single and moved to second on a sac bunt. After Cassidy Bowen reach on a dropped third strike, the Golden Hurricane then strung five straight hits together for the 5-0 lead.
Tulsa added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth with two out. Jill Barrett, Samantha Cobb and Lacey Middlebrooks posted back-to-back-to-back singles and all eventually came around to score.
Southern Miss (11-26, 0-11) had one last opportunity to extend the game past five innings, but Kinard got two fly outs before issuing her first walk of the game.
The two teams will play the final game of the series Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
