Softball Falls in Series Opener, 8-3

TULSA, Okla. - The Southern Miss softball team dropped the series opener to Tulsa, 8-3.
Southern Miss got on the board first when Leslie LeJune led off with a walk and moved to second on a pass ball and scored on a Jill Mathis single to left.
Tulsa answered in the home half of the inning when Caitlin Everett reached after being hit by a pitch then stole second. Jill Barrett reached on a fielder's choice that sent Everett to third and scored on a Samantha Cobb's fielder's choice. Tulsa got a second run after Lacey Middlebrook singled putting runners at first and second. Lauren Menke reached on a fielder's choice but Cobb was able to get home after a Golden Eagle error for the 2-1 lead.
The Golden Hurricane added a run in the bottom of the second when Kelly Chapman hit a solo home run over left field.
Tulsa pushed another run across in the bottom of the third when Cobb led off the inning with a double and scored on an Aimee Creger double.
Tulsa added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth when Bowen drew a walk and Chapman followed with a two-run homer. Everett followed with an infield single and stole second. Barrett had a bunt single that moved Everett to third. Barrett stole second and got to third on an error that allowed the Hurricane to score. Everett then scored on a sac fly to round out the Tulsa scoring.
Southern Miss scored two runs in the top of when Britney Dinelt doubled to lead off the inning and scored when Chanell Thurman recorded her first home run of the season.
Beth Dietrich (6-12) got the loss while Creger (15-1) earned the win for the Hurricane.
