Black Beats Gold, 45-10, in annual Spring Game

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Black squad accumulated 581 total yards of offense, while holding the Gold Team to just 169 yards, as it dominated the Gold squad, 45-10, in Southern Miss' annual spring football game, Saturday afternoon at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
"Coming out of this, I wanted to see great effort from the guys, and I felt like we got that today," said head coach Larry Fedora. "I didn't feel like we were dragging. Guys were moving around. I wanted to have as few mistakes as possible, and from what I could see, there weren't many mistakes made."
Austin Davis threw for 326 yards on 28-of-32 passing, while connecting with three different receivers on touchdowns, including a 65-yarder to Kelvin Bolden in the second quarter.
Davis also connected with Tracy Lampley on a 12-yard touchdown in the second and William Spight on an 18-yarder early in the fourth quarter.
Desmond Johnson and Jamal Woodyard each rushed for over 100 yard for the Black squad. Johnson ran 12 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns, while Woodyard rushed for 111 yards on 10 carries and one score.
Bolden led the Black with eight catches for 137 yards and a touchdown.
The Gold Team was led by Chris Campbell, who was 9-of-14 for 105 yards and one touchdown. He hit Markese Triplett on a 35-yard pass with just 43 seconds remaining in the second half for the Gold's only touchdown.
Darrell Sanders led the Gold Team with 43 rushing yards, and Triplett added 52 yards receiving.
On defense, Jamie Collins registered eight tackles for the Black Team, while Alan Howze added six. Cordarro Law recorded three sacks, Terrance Pope registered two and N'Gal Tillman added one. For the Gold squad, Martez Thompson had 10 tackles and Clifford Johnson had nine.
The team will hold its final practice of the spring this Monday before taking the summer off.
