Eagle Softball Team Falls To Cal State Fullerton, 5-1

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Cal State Fullerton put runs on the board in the first and third innings in defeating Southern Miss softball team, 5-1, in the night cap of the DeMarini Invitational Saturday.
Michelle Takeda accounted for all of the Golden Eagles offense collecting the only two hits including a solo home run, her first of the season.
Freshman Kelly Smith (2-2) took the loss for the Golden Eagles while CSF's Ari Cervantes (4-4) earned the complete game win.
CSF put two runs on the board in the home half of the first when Lauren Marina drew a walk and after moving to second on a sac bunt, Craddick hit a two-run home run over left, putting the Titans up 2-0.
The Titans added three more runs in the bottom of the third with Marina leading off with a walk and advancing to second on a sac bunt and moved to third on an illegal pitch. Craddick also drew a walk and pinch runner Rubio stole second. Southern Miss went to its bullpen and Gabby Luciani came in relief with two runners on. Marina scored off a wild pitch before Johnson added a two-run blast over left to give CSF a 5-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles (8-11) got a run back in the top of the fourth on a solo shot by Takeda. Luciani pitched 2.2 innings before Courtney Ramos came in relief in the sixth with a runner on to finish the inning.
Southern Miss concludes play in the DeMarini Invitational with UC Santa at 11 a.m. and Northridge at 1:15 p.m., all times are central.
