HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team began opened its spring practice today with a two hour and 45 minute workout Monday afternoon.
The team began practice at the Joe P. Park Facility before rain pushed it to M.M. Roberts Stadium.
"It was a good Day One," said fourth-year head coach Larry Fedora. "The energy level was really good. The guys bounced around and were excited to be out there. "
Despite it only being the first practice, Coach Fedora was impressed with his defense under first-year defensive coordinator Dan Disch.
"The defense guys are learning," said Fedora. "Obviously, they are learning something new. But I was impressed with the way they were moving around. (Coach Disch) had them flying around. They knew what to do today, on the first day of install. It won't get hard for them until practice three or four. Then we'll see how much we can maintain."
One key for Fedora and his coaching staff is to find out what personnel works well in each position.
"That's a big key this spring. To put the guys in the right spots. That's one of our biggest things.
The Golden Eagles return to practice Wednesday afternoon.
