HATTIESBURG, Miss. - As temperatures dipped into the 40's, the No. 23 Southern Miss Golden Eagles continued to prepare for Saturday's Conference USA Championship game, at No. 6 Houston, on Tuesday at the Joe P. Park practice facility.
It was another in a string of upbeat, energetic practices for the Golden Eagles and fourth-year coach Larry Fedora credited his senior group for their leadership and keeping the squad prepared to play.
"These seniors have led this team all year," said Fedora. "I can't remember a time, maybe once during fall camp, where I wasn't happy with their performance. These guys have practiced hard and that's why we're in the position we are in.
Fedora also noted the focus level he hopes the team is maintain throughout the week leading up to the championship game in Houston.
"You have one opportunity in your life to do what we're about to do on Saturday," he said. "For these seniors, for sure. And for the other guys, it will never be the same situation. You'll never be playing for the conference championship against the No. 6 team in the nation and nobody gives you a chance."
Saturday's matchup is set for an 11 a.m. CT kickoff and will be broadcast on ABC from Robertson Stadium.
