HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After falling out of the Bowl Championship Series Rankings and the two national polls last week, the Southern Miss football team returned to all three Sunday following its 44-7 regular-season finale victory at home over Memphis the previous day.
The Golden Eagles, which hold a 10-2 record and captured the C-USA East Division title, moved into the No. 24 spot of the BCS Rankings.
The program also jumped back in the USA Today Coaches' Poll at No. 23 and the Associated Press Top 25 at No. 24.
This is the fifth week this season that the team has been recognized by USA Today, the fourth week by the BCS and the third week by the Associated Press. The Golden Eagles were as high as No. 20 in both the BCS Rankings and the coaches' poll on Nov. 13.
Southern Miss now sets its sights on the Conference USA championship as they will travel to play West Division winner, Houston. The Cougars, which rank No. 6 in the BCS, are 12-0 this season and one of two FBS teams that still remain undefeated in 2011. The other is No. 1 LSU.
The two teams will play at Robertson Stadium in Houston, beginning at 11 a.m., on Saturday. The game can be heard live on the Southern Miss IMG Network and be seen nationally on ABC.
