HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team rose two spots to No. 20 in the latest Bowl Championship Series rankings, which were released Sunday night.
The Golden Eagles (9-1 overall and 5-1 in C-USA East) have won eight straight contests and are off to their best start since the 1962 campaign. USM appears in the BCS rankings for the third week in a row.
Southern Miss is one of four schools from Non-Automatic Qualifying conferences to earn a spot in the Top 25 of the BCS. Boise State leads the way at No. 10, followed by fellow C-USA member Houston at No. 11. TCU, which beats the Broncos yesterday, holds down the No. 19 position.
It will be a short week for Southern Miss as they travel to Birmingham, Ala., for a Thursday night contest against UAB at Legion Field. Game time is 7 p.m.
